Genetically altered laboratory animals: breeding and colony management

This unit will provide learners with the key principles in breeding and maintaining genetically altered mice.

• Maintaining GA colonies
• Principles of Genotypes

Key Skills you will develop

• Ability to identify and analyse the importance of genetic background on the phenotype of genetically altered animals
• Ability to plan breeding programmes to maintain a genetic alteration within a population according to principles of reduction and refinement
• Knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of genotypes
